Receipt printer or kitchen display not printing: a quick check

A simple checklist when receipts or kitchen tickets aren't coming out.

If no receipt or kitchen ticket appears, the cause is usually simple. Run through this list before calling for help.

Quick check

  1. Paper and lid: Does the printer have paper, and is the lid properly closed?
  2. Power and lights: Is the printer lit? Turn it off and on.
  3. Connection: Is the printer on the same network/cable as before? Check that the cloud printer is connected. See "Assigning a cloud printer".
  4. Right routing: Are items going to the right printer? Kitchen tickets are controlled by category routing. See "Routing a category to a kitchen printer".
  5. Test: Print a test receipt, or run a fresh sale.

Good to know: If you use a kitchen display (KDS) instead of a printer, check that the screen is on and connected. See "Set up the kitchen display (KDS)".
