Mark an item out of stock from the POS screen (quick options)

When you run out mid-rush, you can set an item out of stock straight from the POS screen – long-press the button, choose how long, and the item becomes unavailable everywhere.

When you run out of something mid-rush, you don't need to go into the back office. You can mark the item out of stock right from the POS screen with a long-press on the product button. It's the fastest way to stop selling an item, and it syncs to the back office, kiosk and online ordering.

Set an item out of stock from the POS

  1. Find the product button on the POS screen.
  2. Press and hold the button (long-press) until the item's quick menu appears.
  3. Choose Out of stock in the menu.
  4. Choose how long the item should be out of stock. Common options are:
    • Rest of the day – the item returns automatically at the next opening.
    • A set period – for example one hour, or until a time you enter.
    • Until you turn it back on – the item stays out of stock until you set it back yourself.
  5. Confirm. The button is now marked out of stock (usually dimmed) and can't be sold until it's back.

Other quick options in the menu

Depending on your setup, the long-press may also give you shortcuts to:

  • Put the item back in stock right away.
  • Set a "back in stock" time that staff can see.
  • Open the product for bigger changes, such as price or description.

When does the item come back?

  • If you set a duration (rest of the day or a set period), the item returns automatically when the time is up.
  • If you chose until you turn it back on, you put it back manually – either with another long-press on the POS, or by clearing the Out of stock checkbox on the product in the back office.

Good to know: This is the same out-of-stock state as the Out of stock switch in the back office (see "Marking a product out of stock"). When you set it from the POS, it shows as out of stock everywhere – including the self-order kiosk and online ordering – so customers can't order it.

Tip: If you use Stock tracking with a quantity, the item is marked out of stock automatically when the count reaches zero. The manual POS quick option is meant for when you run out of something you don't otherwise count.
