The kitchen display (KDS) shows orders to the kitchen as they're rung up, so they don't need paper tickets. Here's how the kitchen uses it during service.
During service
- New tickets appear on the screen in the order they arrive, with table or order number.
- Start a ticket when you begin making it – some setups mark it "in progress".
- Mark as ready / bump when the dish is done. The ticket is removed or moved to the done column.
- Watch the time: older tickets can change color so you see what's urgent.
Good to know: Which items reach the screen is controlled by category routing. See "Routing a category to a kitchen printer". The screen is set up in the back office. See "Set up the kitchen display (KDS)".
Tip: If you bump a ticket by mistake, it's usually under recently completed – check there before re-entering it.
