Organizing categories into a hierarchy

Reorder your categories and nest them under a parent to build a clear, layered menu.

Once you have a few categories, you can put them in the right order and group them under a parent for a cleaner menu structure, for example Cold Drinks and Hot Drinks under a Drinks grouping.

Steps

  1. Open the list. Go to Products → Product categories.
  2. Reorder a category. In the Priority column, use the Move up and Move down arrows to change where a category sits in the list.
  3. Nest a category. Use the Indent (make child of above category) arrow to tuck a category under the one directly above it. Indented categories appear stepped in to show the relationship.
  4. Move a category back out. Use the Outdent (move up one level) arrow to lift it back up a level.
  5. Check the path. The Location Path column shows the full trail, such as Drinks -> Hot Drinks, so you can confirm the structure at a glance.

Tip: You can also set the grouping while editing a category, using the Visual Parent (Optional) selector in the category window.

Good to know: This hierarchy is for visual grouping and display order only. It helps staff navigate the menu faster without changing how products are priced or sold.
