Setting dine-in and takeaway prices with Food Mode
Charge different prices and VAT rates for eating in versus taking away.
In Norway, food eaten in is charged at 25% MVA while takeaway food is charged at 15% MVA. When your business has food service enabled, a product can carry both a dine-in and a takeaway price, and the system applies the correct VAT automatically.
Steps
- Go to Products → Products and open a product (or click Add Product).
- On the Generally tab, make sure the Food Service toggle is on.
- In the Pricing & Tax section you will now see two cards side by side:
- Dine-in Pricing, marked 25% VAT.
- Takeaway Pricing, marked 15% VAT.
- Enter the Price incl. VAT under Dine-in Pricing.
- Enter the Price incl. VAT under Takeaway Pricing.
- Click Update Product (or Create Product) to save.
Good to know: The system shows you the price excluding VAT, the VAT amount and your profit for each option as you type, so you can check your margins at a glance.
Tip: If you set one side, set the other too. A product cannot have a paid dine-in price and a free takeaway price (or the reverse) — enter both explicitly.
When Food Service is turned off, the product falls back to a single price and a manually chosen VAT Code.
Important — for restaurants: If you run a restaurant, turn on Food Service (Food Mode) on each product. You must enter both a dine-in price and a takeaway price — even if they are identical — because they use different VAT (MVA) rates (25% dine-in, 15% takeaway). Leaving one blank can block the sale or apply the wrong VAT.
