Card terminal not responding: a quick check
What to check when a card payment won't go through, so you can take payment again fast.

When the card terminal doesn't respond, payment stalls. Usually a few quick checks fix it.
Quick check
- Power: Is the terminal on and charged? Put it on the charger if the battery is low.
- Connection: Does the terminal have a network (Wi-Fi/mobile/cable)? Many terminals show a connection icon.
- The amount was sent: Is the terminal waiting for the right amount? Cancel and resend from the POS.
- Restart: Turn the terminal off and on. That fixes most temporary faults.
- Test a small payment to confirm it works again.
Good to know: If a payment hangs so you're unsure whether it went through, check the order/receipt before retrying – that avoids charging the customer twice. See "Viewing the details of an order".
